Sanjoy Sen's West Bengal are unbeaten so far in the 78th edition of the National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy.

They topped Group C with two wins and one draw in the group stage, then repeated the feat in the final round with four wins and one draw, including a 1-0 win over the Services (Group A).

Services, the defending champions, gained direct entry to the final round. In the six-team Group A, they finished third behind West Bengal and Manipur with three wins and two defeats.

Seven-time champions Services are looking to win back-to-back titles for the second time. They defended the title in 2016.

According to the All India Football Federation release, West Bengal and Services first met in the 1951 edition and they have since faced off 31 more times.

Services beat Bengal for their first Santosh Trophy title in the 1960 final in Kozhikode. Bengal avenged it nine years later in Nowgong.

West Bengal lead Services 21-6 in 32 previous Santosh Trophy final round meetings.
